Lana - Gateway to the South
With its nearly 40 churches and monasteries as well as the convent of the German Order, Lana has always been a place of historical and religious importance. Since the Middle Ages the fortresses of Brandis, Leonburg and Braunsberg characterise the panorama of the village. Nowadays cultural and historic sites are harmoniously connected by picturesque and old walking paths lined by modern sculptures and art works.
Being one of the best developed and economically strongest municipalities in the area, Lana offers its approximately 12,000 inhabitants the best of both worlds: a rural environment as well as a culturally interesting urban centre. Besides the breathtaking, Mediterranean landscape of the Alps that offers many hiking and short trip destinations for families, visitors may explore the bustling life of the village, numerous sights and cultural events.
