Autumn in Merano
15 September - 17th November 2012
Autumn turns the spa town of Meran and its surroundings into a riot of colour. So Autumn in Merano calls for a lively and colourful celebration. The celebrations of the vintage and the fruit harvest such as the "Keschtnriggl", the Grape Festival or the Merano International Wine Festival & Culinaria, are the focal point for numerous events and festivals during that time. Apart from local wine and gastronomic events "Autumn in Merano" provides an innovative way of getting to know the culinary and musical traditions of the area.
In September and October many restaurants in the Passirio Valley invite you to taste traditional and refined dishes such as roasted chamois or "Muas" and "Riibl" (a kind of milk pudding and pancakes). October definitively is the month of wine. Themed "Ars et Vinum" the young wine of the year is presented in the historical wine cellar of the Algrund Winery while at the same time the village of Tyrol inaugurates its VinoCulti Festival.
Harvest time is typically celebrated with the traditional Merano Grape Festival that offers the best regional wines and home-style fare to visitors, while marching bands play at the promenade and in the streets of the old town. Around mid October "Keschtnriggl" generates an unforgettable autumn atmosphere during the Chestnut Days in the villages of Foiana and Tesimo. Additionally, vintage cars join for a rally called Herbst Classic - Golden Edition from Schenna across South Tyrol.
Finally, before the holiday spirit and thoughts of Christmas reach the Adige Valley, the Riesling Days at the village of Naturno offer culinary delights in October and November.
